Did you know… Suicide

Letter from 2012-11-15

Did you know that , according to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention…• Every 13.7 seconds someone in the United States dies from suicide; • Suicide rates are highest for people between the ages of 40 and 59;• Men are nearly 4 times more likely to die by suicide than women. Women attempt suicide 3 times as often as men.

Why is this? More and more people are systematically being disconnected from each other. Our quest for “a good life”, “prosperity”, “acceptance”, “love”, etc… has given soo many of us tunnel vision. Our eyes being focused on what we can attain / obtain that we don’t appreciate what we actually have. The saying is true that ‘the more that you get, the more you want’. We need to return to a life of simplicity. As we go back to basics, we will be able to see more clearly what we have.

In 2002, God had really been dealing with me and returning to simplicity. Needless to say, He won 🙂 and we moved to Miami, Florida. When we left Ohio we had a 3,000 sq ft house, 3 vehicles and our average monthly expenses were around $4,000/mo. Long story short, we sold everything (vehicles, furniture, clothes, stuff) and moved to Miami in a Mustang. We moved into an efficiency apartment. This place was tiny! But our peace was wrapped in it because now our needs were smaller. Instead of needing $4,000 for the basics, now we only needed $800! Our stress levels were almost non-existent!! All because we downsized!! By no means, am I telling you to sell everything and go live in a hut. What I am saying is that we all should seriously evaluate what is truly needful and important…

My pastor made a statement the other day that blew me away. Many times in friend-/relationships, “we aren’t dealing with a lack of love but a lack of faith”. That was powerful to me. We’re not dealing with loveless-ness but faithlessness. Faith is a confidence or trust in a person or thing. Whereas love is a profoundly tender, passionate affection for another person. When we lose confidence and trust, our affection is effected. And when these things happen, we end up feeling hopeless and helpless. When confidence, or trust, are broken and if you truly care, then they need to be repaired immediately. Don’t wait!!! First, you must care enough to repair the breach. Secondly, you have to work together. And finally, get REAL support… Too often, people offer support with words but when the action is needed… 😦 Trust me I can’t stress that enough because you never know where a person fits into the above statistics!!!!

So, in summary, let’s enjoy what/who we have and if there has been issues within your friend-/relationships fix it… Not only are hearts on the line but lives as well…

I love you all!!!
Stay blessed
