Letter from 2012-12-02
Last night, my wife and I were invited to a friend’s house for a social gathering. It wasn’t dinner. It wasn’t a party. It wasn’t a themed event. Just a few households and their children coming together to hang out, eat and just enjoy each other. I, personally, love these types of get-togethers. It was an impromptu, not totally planned, seat of your pants event where we all just kinda showed up.
One thing that was especially cool about last night was that we allowed the children to hangout unattended in a different room and we adults got to be kids. As parents, we always have our Mommy/Daddy Hats on. We have to make sure that wherever we go and whatever we do, our children have to be tended to, appeased, and most times entertained. Well, we had a chance to take off our hats and let our hair down. We shared stories, laughed, joked and just had a plain good ole’ time on an adult level.
As people, every day is scheduled. We have those responsibilities that we must attend to. We have to take the children to school, go to work, attend meetings, go to appointments, etc. Sometimes, our schedules are soo packed with stuff that we don’t set any time aside to recharge our batteries.
During our morning prayers, our boys always ask God to, “let us have fun today”. So, I’m passing that prayer on to YOU. Forrest Gump said, “Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what your gonna get”. Well, since you don’t know, how about let’s enjoy the ride. In the midst of handling ‘business’, don’t forget the have fun today.
I love you ALL!!!
