One of the hardest things NOT to do is focus on our situations and circumstances. Why? Because they seem to be always looking at us…
I remember our Pastor preached a sermon concerning our Position and our Condition. I don’t remember the whole message but the key theme was this. When we are IN a thing, all we can see IS the thing. But, when we view it from God’s perspective, ABOVE it, then we can see the truth of the matter and that is, it’s not as bad as it may seem. We are Kings and Priests, we need to walk in the authority that we’ve been given by our Heavenly Father, the King of Kings.
You see, when we focus on the stuff more than we focus on God, then the stuff becomes our god. How many times have you seen someone who truly loved their car? They will wash it, shine it up, and baby it. They won’t allow you to drink water, let alone eat, in the car for fear of ‘messing something up.’ They cover it when its not being driven. They won’t drive it in the rain or snow or seemingly ever. They have a special place in the garage for it OR they have rented a storage unit to keep it safe. This person worships their car. Their car is their god. Have you ever seen this person get into a car accident, in THAT car? This person is completely crushed not by the accident but to the harm done to their god, the car.
The above example may seem dumb to most of us. But, the interesting thing is that we all know someone who worships their car like that. What makes matters worse is that we ALL do it to something. It may be our children. It may be our house or pet. Some may worship the person that they are in love with. That person is on your mind continually. Always wondering how are they doing, what are they doing, who are they with and are they okay. It’s about focus… Or watch this, it may be our bills… Yes, our bills. The whole message is about FOCUS! Many of us can’t enjoy the life that we live because we are focussed on our bills. Our bills have become our gods because we can’t stop thinking about them.
When it comes to God, we have to put Him in His rightful place and that is at the top. Anytime that something gets more attention than Him then that thing has got to go!!! I know some believers that are going thru some changes in ministry and it seems that lately the only conversation that I’ve heard from them is all about the changes. They aren’t talking about the Word of God, the Presence of God, the Power of God or, the blessings of God but they are consumed with the changes. Most of these concerns are based in Fear, which is a whole different topic. But, the reality is that the changes have become their god.
The Bible distinctly tells us what to do with our thoughts, motivations and focus… The Bible says…
Philippians 4:7-9 KJV, “And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.” If we focus on these things we will have Godly peace!!!
John 4:23-24 The Message, “It’s who you are and the way you live that count before God. Your worship must engage your spirit in the pursuit of truth. That’s the kind of people the Father is out looking for: those who are simply and honestly themselves before him in their worship. God is sheer being itself—Spirit. Those who worship him must do it out of their very being, their spirits, their true selves, in adoration.” When our spirit is clear of the stuff then we can truly worship…
Matthew 6:33 NLT, “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.” He will give you everything you need means that when we focus on the Kingdom, God will take care of our concerns.
We live beneath our privileges when we don’t keep our focus on Him. After all, He is the Author and Finisher of our Faith…
I love you ALL!!!
